Pre-recollections and survey of the Whole With us, more than in any
other Age since the dawn of World History, Time is taking giant steps.
Somewhere within the last years, which have passed along with their
ongoing segments of time, this segment is completely expired and
decided. Somewhere, through its full development, selfishness has
annihilated itself, by having lost its Self and its Autonomy. Because
it willingly set itself no other End than itself, extrinsic forces have
imposed on it such another and alien End. Whoever has engaged in
interpreting his time must also accompany its continuation, should it
gain such augmentation. It therefore becomes a duty to the same Public
before whom I designate the Present, to recognize the same as Past
after it has ceased to be the former.
